Direct an Industrial Networking Team

SUMMARY:

The role of the Director of Network Engineering is to develop, mentor, guide, and oversee all Network Engineering operations across the enterprise. The Director of Network Engineering defines and serves as a subject matter expert for Industrial Network Engineering standards, work products, work processes, and practices across the enterprise. The Director of Network Engineering is responsible for the instantiation of and maintenance of corporate and regional franchise Network Engineering departments. The Director of Network Engineering owns the technical details for and ensures the quality and consistency of Industrial Network Engineering activities and deliverables across the enterprise.    

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define, develop, manage, and maintain Network Engineering templates, work products, applications, offerings and standards across the enterprise.
  • Coordinate and/or provide training for Network Engineering templates, work products, applications, offerings and standards across the enterprise.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Network Engineering standards, work processes, work products, applications and practices across the enterprise.
  • Assume subject matter expert project responsibilities for all Network Engineering projects across the enterprise.
  • Serve as customer facing Network Engineering subject matter expert for project or project opportunities where Director level engagement is deemed necessary for project/project opportunity success. 
  • Maintain accountability for the quality and consistency of Network Engineering services/deliverables across the enterprise.
  • Provide Network Engineering subject matter expertise to aid in the resolution of Network Engineering project warranty and service cases.
  • Solicit feedback from Network Engineering stakeholders for continuous improvement, efficiency, and quality initiatives.
  • Recommend and direct Network Engineering specific continuous improvement, efficiency, and quality initiatives across the enterprise. Lead recurring meetings dedicated to the same.
  • In cooperation with the COO, VP of Engineering, and Program Managers, maintain responsibility for the performance and development of Network Engineering staff members across the enterprise.
  • In cooperation with the COO, VP of Engineering, and Program Managers, provide consultation relative to Network Engineering staff levels and staff composition for optimal Network Engineering performance across the enterprise.
  • Work with Human Resources, the VP of Engineering, and Program Managers in the recruitment and selection of Network Engineering staff across the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with the Network Engineering Business Development Manager for awareness and input into new business opportunities; structure, tool, and train Network Engineering departments across the enterprise to ensure capabilities align with business development pursuits.
  • Provide feedback to the Network Engineering Business Development Manager and Sales organization to maintain alignment between proposed/delivered solutions, proposed/delivered services, and proposed/actual budget estimates.
  • Travel to corporate office, regional offices and customer sites required (15-20% of calendar year is typical).
  • Maintain 50% billable utilization rate through aforementioned essential duties and responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or similar required
  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant Network Engineering experience
  • Minimum Certifications: CCNA and Some type of Industrial Network Certification (CCNA Industrial, Hirschmann Industrial Network Engineer HiNE, or equivalent)
  • Preferred Certifications: CCDA, CCNP, CCIE, CISSP

Skills/Abilities

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle large volume of detail with accuracy and reliability
  • Expertise in the design of IT and OT converged networks from equipment level to production/enterprise wide networks
  • Expertise in industrial network topologies, protocols, switching and routing infrastructure, and physical cabling
  • Ability to design, manage and implement secure, robust industrial networks for functional units and plant wide systems by implementing reference architectures
  • Expertise in designing, troubleshooting, and optimizing plant floor networks
  • In-depth experience with TCP/IP both from an administrative level as well as at an API level
  • Proficient in analysis of network traffic using tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark
  • Proficient in firewall concepts and configuration.
  • Systems: Windows, Cisco Systems, UNIX, Linux
  • Networking: Switches, Routers, Hubs, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS
  • Solid knowledge of AutoCAD and/or VISIO drawing programs
  • Knowledge of PLC, DCS and SCADA systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of IP data technologies, including but not limited to routing protocols, IGMP, and VLAN manipulation.
  • Knowledge of various wireless technologies, including but not limited to GSM, UMTS, CDMA, Wi-Fi and standards.
